About this project

Farm buildings are long, low, south-facing and already engineered to carry a load. That makes their roofs some of the most straightforward commercial solar real estate in the country — and this one in Darlington County now carries 100.28 kW along its length.

The array sits flush to the existing metal roof, following the same slope and the same run. Nothing about the operation below it changed: the ventilation fans, the feed lines and the service access are all where they were, and the panels stop short of every ridge vent and roof penetration.

For an agricultural operation, the appeal is simple. The load runs year-round, the roof was already paid for, and the ground stays in production.
